Edwards is a leading global technology company supplying vacuum and abatement equipment for the manufacture of semiconductors, flat panel displays, LEDs and solar cells and is also a leader in vacuum technology for industrial, scientific, process and R&D applications. The company employs approximately 3,000 people worldwide with about 900 in the UK and has its headquarters in Crawley, UK. Edwards created the concept of the low-maintenance, cost-effective, commercial oil-free 'dry' vacuum pump and offers a wide range of other pumping technologies, and related products, supported by an international sales and service organisation.
In addition to the UK, manufacturing takes place in the Czech Republic, Japan and Korea, with a technology centre based in Sussex. E3 scholars will be linked to the Motors and Drives Group, which works alongside other design groups to develop a diverse range of vacuum pump products.
